After testing quite a few children's classical guitars in the price range we wanted, we finally found this half size guitar that was perfect for young children because of its size and the fact that you can actually adjust the tension of the strings on the headstock. If you know how to play a guitar and the strings are not tunable, well - it's not really a guitar is it? The plywood construction is quite robust and the strings are soft, making them ideal for young guitarists.

Yucky gut strings were used originally on classical guitars and they were eventually replaced with a man made fibre called 'nylon' and also with silk-cored strings. Flamenco guitars are very similar, but they generally sound louder with a more percussive tone. You can get guitars with steel strings too, but they are usually larger in size and have a more narrow and stronger neck with a stonger structural design so that it can withstand the extra tension of steel strings. You can also get guitars with not only six strings, but with four, seven, eight, ten and even twelve. Guitars are made and they are repaired by someone called a luthier.
